Safety & Training Programs

Safety-Driven Company Culture

Professional school bus driver training is critical to a driver’s confidence in their job, and we aim to foster a strong, safety-driven culture that empowers our employees to feel proud of the work they do.

It is our goal to hire school bus drivers and transportation staff who share our values of compassion, safety, and customer service, and we provide our employees with training of the highest level. We believe that starting each day with a familiar face is an important step in the education process, with drivers who are compassionate and confident in the safe management of their school bus. Our drivers receive sensitivity training for working with special needs students, learn bullying prevention and awareness methods, undergo regular drug and alcohol testing, and have their driving records reviewed on a regular basis.

Driver Qualifications & Training

Driver Qualifications & Training

More than ever, school bus drivers play a vital role in our education system, and at Leuschen, our bus drivers are trained to be the best. Each driver is required to attend annual driver training. We utilize a comprehensive system covering everything a school bus driver needs to know, while preparing them to manage their passengers with the utmost safety and care.

New drivers receive classroom instruction with certified trainers, and train behind-the-wheel before operating any vehicle for our customers. In addition to standardized training and education curriculums, we offer drivers more than 150 online courses through our Learning Management System.

Student Monitors

Student Monitors

Our monitors are patient, caring individuals with an interest in assisting students with special needs. Monitors support our drivers by maintaining a safe environment on the school bus, instructing students and upholding the bus rules and regulations. At times, they may escort students on and off the bus, assisting with wheelchairs or other securement devices, and are responsible for monitoring students until they are released to a teacher, instructional assistant, parent, or other appropriate guardian. Monitors are trained to respond to emergency situations, and are given the tools to react in a calm and efficient manner.

In-Service Training

In-Service Training

We provide our employees with high quality training material throughout the year, with a series of campaigns that highlight specific topics relevant to our local operations.

The series focuses on key months of the school year with material that includes meeting presentations and quizzes, videos, prevention tips and safety reminders, printable safety activities, and more. This ongoing focus on safety and training ensures that Leuschen’s professional drivers provide you the safest possible transportation solution.
